Progressive indeed; Mighty Thunder crowned his excellent novice chase season by winning the Scottish Grand National at Ayr this afternoon. A horse who has grown in confidence and loves to relax and gallop over the extended distance, Mighty jumped neatly throughout, and while briefly outpaced coming into the home straight, he stayed on strongly to the last and extended on the run in to win by just under a length.
Ridden by Tom Scudamore this was a huge win for owners Allson Sparkle a wine and spirits wholesale company from St Andrews making Mighty Scottish owned and trained. It is a credit to the health of racing here in Scotland and the North that there was a strong representation of Scottish and Northern horses who filled ten of the top twelve places.
Big River was one of those finishers coming tenth after finding the ground and pace of the race a bit lively. He finshied well showing plenty of zest and back on soft ground he should be able to return to the winners enclosure.
Both Mighty and Big River will enjoy a decent summer holiday now, giving their owners plenty to plan for next season. Thank you to Colin, Nicola, Debs and The Two Black Labs for their continued support of Lucinda Russell Racing and many congratulations.
